Creative Society delivered this in-work progression programme, Step Up, for three years from 2016-2019. During this period we provided personalised one-to-one mentoring for 120 18-30 year olds who were stuck in cycles of low pay. Creative Society worked with individuals to improve their confidence, knowledge of the creative industries to help them widen their creative networks and secure better paid work.

Step Up was funded by the Walcot Foundation and Trust for London. It was a cross sector programme which helped young people into better jobs. This included helping people into new positions, supporting people to negotiate better hours or improved contracts as well as helping artists to establish themselves as creative freelancers. Creative Society subsequently modelled its Creative Job Studio on our learning from this work.

The whole project was evaluated by the Learning and Work Institute and the full Step Up Report is available here.

Creative Society continues to run a mentoring programme for young people in Haringey, Hackney and Islington and we are actively seeking to recruit new people for the scheme. For more information please contact our Project Manager Kitty Withington [email protected]
