The Creative Society is an arts employment charity that helps young people into jobs in the creative and cultural industries.
One in five 16 – 24 years old have no job and are not in full time education. The TUC says it’s a “an emergency” and are calling on the government to open up the Future Jobs Fund even more to make sure that all unemployed young people get the help they need to find work.
The figure of 1.6 million unemployed young people is just under the peak of the unemployment crisis in the 1980′s when one in four was out of work. Then, the government introduced the Enterprise Allowance Scheme to help people set up as freelances, or running their own businesses.
Time for a new version of that perhaps ?
We await the latest unemployment figures, which are expected to show a further increase in the total numbers of people without jobs.
