Suzanne Moore on NDotM launch
The Mail on Sunday’s Suzanne Moore this week dedicates her column to the New Deal of the Mind launch at Number 11.
Suzanne attended our launch seminar last tuesday alongside fifty other leading figures from the creative sector. She has been a pillar of the New Deal of the Mind coalition since its inception and she rightly draws attention to the dearth of employment opportunities for new graduates and school leavers. She insists also that we look to the creative industries to lead economic recovery.
Unquestionably…we are good at the arts, at music, at design, innovation, invention. The creative industries remain key to economic revival. This idea is not about just bunging more money to the arts but about job creation and joined-up thinking.
What are we going to do with all the graduates we are producing who simply cannot find work? Our kids are now coming out of college with, on average, £21,000 of debt, yet the jobs do not exist to match their expectations…The creative industries can create jobs. If we use our imagination. Let’s go to work.
