DCMS press release: NDotM to partner government in cultural job creation plans
New Deal of the Mind yesterday attended the launch of the government’s new ‘Lifting People, Lifting Places’ initiative at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. The plans laid out are a positive first step. But there’s a lot of work still to do.
Ministers Andy Burnham and James Purnell declared the government’s determination to place the creative and cultural sector at the heart of economic policy and praised New Deal of the Mind for promoting open dialogue and galvanising the collaborative efforts of those involved in both the creative industries and government. The DCMS also detailed in its press release its committment to working with New Deal of the Mind on proposals for cultural activity and job creation.
The government intends to create more than 5,000 jobs in culture, music and creative industries as part of the £1.1bn Future Jobs Fund announced in the budget last month. New Deal of the Mind has already been working in collaberation with government and Feargal Sharkey of UK Music to develop plans for 200 jobs for young unemployed people at this summer’s music festivals.
But this is just the beginning. We look forward to working closely with government and are optimistic that together we can turn well-intended rhetoric into positive action.
