Ben Bradshaw to be new Culture Minister
Following last week’s cabinet reshuffle, Ben Bradshaw has replaced Andy Burnham as Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport. Bradshaw enters the DCMS at a crucial moment. The government faces some tough decisions, not least the finalising of the Digital Britain report.
Bradshaw, MP for Exeter and a former BBC journalist, will have little time to acclimatise himself to his new position. The publication date of the much-vaunted Digital Britain Report is fast approaching and there has been speculation that the team behind the report, led by Lord Carter, will not meet the June 16th deadline.
There are further issues facing the UK media industry that require urgent attention, not least the future of the BBC and Channel 4 and the parlous state of local and regional journalism. Bradshaw has much work to do. New Deal of the Mind looks forward to working with him.
